Volontari salesiani alla GMG 2016
On July 18-24, the Salesian volunteers gathered at the Salesian Theologate at Cracovia to prepare the places and events for the Salesian pilgrims coming from all over the world.
There are many things to do but willingness, optimism, and the desire to serve are not lacking. They will do all that is necessary so that, in the spirit of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, they can serve their peers coming from every part of the world. The volunteers lived a very intense week with work, times of festivity, but above all, of encounter with God in the Eucharist and in prayer.
On Tuesday, March 19, the volunteers began to work intensely in small groups. Cleaning the accommodations, preparing the pilgrim's kit, organizing info-point, and responses to the questions of the Salesian pilgrims are only some of the activities carried out. In the courtyard of the Salesian Theologate at Cracovia, there is also a group of Polish soldiers who, with great commitment and dedication, prepared beds in the camp. The tiring day concluded with the Eucharist celebrated in the Salesian Church at Debniki, where for some years they go to pray to St. John Paul II. After Mass, there was the prayer vigil prepared by the Salesian volunteers.
July 20th was very intense and rich with events for the Salesian volunteers. After Morning Prayer, the time arrived for ulterior activities in preparation for YWD and SYM. A large number of volunteers transferred to the EXPO fair of Cracovia where the first works began in view of SYM. This event will have the participation of over 5,000 persons from the Salesian Youth Movement of the whole world. The other volunteers continued to carry out the work begun previously.
In the evening, at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Cracovia-Lagiewniki, there was the celebration of the solemn Eucharist for all the WYD volunteers, presided by Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, with the homily by Msgr. Damian Muskus, OFM, co-ordinator of the WYD Organizational Committee.
At the end, there was a folk music concert offered by a Polish/Spanish group on the field next to the Shrine. The crowds of volunteers from the whole world celebrated together, expressing the joy of this meeting. The good music and the great atmosphere of the gathering were a lovely conclusion for the intense day.
