25 years of the presence FMA in Zambia
27th may 2016, celebration of the 25 years of the presence of the daughters of Mary help of christians in Kasama and the beginning of Laura girls Secondary School.
To mark the celebration of the Jubilee of 25 years of the presence of the Salesian Sisters in Kasama this year 2016 several activities were carried out by the whole educating community: family funfair day, youth bash, parents’ braai, teachers’ bash, pupils ‘march to Cathedral and finally the Solemn celebration on 27th May 2016. The Archbishop of Kasama, His Grace Bishop Ignatius Chama, as guest of honor presided at the Eucharistic celebration and the blessings of the new administrative and home economic blocks.
The event was heighten with the presence of different authorities, the Permanent Secretary of Northern Province Mr. Hlobotha Nkunika, the Provincial Education Officer Mr. Jobbix Kalumba, the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, the Provincial of the Salesian of Don Bosco Father George Chalissery and Sr. Marie Claire Jean Dimanche our Provincial.
Many priests from the Archdiocese and Salesian Fathers concelebrated the Eucharist with the Archbishop as well as Bishop emeritus of Mansa Diocese Bishop Aaron Chisha who as priest supported the sisters in the early days. Present also were Salesian sisters from all the communities here in Zambia, religious sisters and brothers from different communities, parents of our pupils, teachers and stakeholders and benefactors such as, Mr. Stork, some delegates from the community development, the Twatasha women’s club past pupils and present pupils. We were mostly glad for the presence of Sr. Maria Mazzone and Sr. Celeste Yolola as they were the pioneers in this mission.
The mass was the solemnity of Mary Help of Christians. In his homely Archbishop Chama underlined the devotion that Don Bosco had for the Eucharist and for Mary Help of Christians inviting us to continue having the same devotion and to spread it. He was grateful for the presence of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christian in the Archdiocese of Kasama and congratulated the Sisters for what they are doing for the poor young people.
After Mass we had the blessing of the new buildings then the moment of entertainment and speeches. In their speeches the Permanent Secretary the same as the Provincial Education Officer praised the work of the Salesian Sisters at Laura Girls secondary school and their contribution to the development and education of the Zambian citizens. They promised to continue supporting the sisters and their educative mission. This became more evident when the Provincial Education Officer promised to give a teacher paid by the government to support the work that the Sisters they are doing in Katongo village where they have started a Grade 6 for poor pupils between (of 15 years to 25 years) in order to give them the possibility of writing the grade 7 so that they can continue to learn going to Grade 8.
“To praise God and celebrate the wonders of his grandeur” was the slogan of the day. What came after the speeches and entertainment was lunch offered to all who participated to this Jubilee celebration.
