Encounter of VIDES Administrative Council
The Administrative Council of VIDES gathered at the Generalate of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians on May 16-17. Present were Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda, General Councillor for the Salesian Family, Sr. Leonor Salazar, VIDES International delegate, Mr. Guido Barbera, VIDES International President, and 11 FMA and lay members, some of them coming from the United States, Switzerland, and Costa Rica.
The meeting opened with a brief prayer and the President’s greetings, followed by the presentation of the semester report of VIDES activities which highlighted some points: the rapport with local delegates, special celebrations (20th VIDES Japan, and 10th VIDES Guatemala), the international experience of 29 volunteers in 11 countries of Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe, participation with the Office of Human Rights (IIMA) at the Side Event on the theme, ‘Youth Empowerment through Human Rights’, participation in the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Woman at New York, and the approval of the 12 international development projects in favour of 6 FMA Provinces.
Sr. Mara Borsi presented the Document, ‘Guidelines for the Formation of VIDES Volunteers’, that is already available in Italian and Spanish. With the approval of the new Haiti VIDES group, there are now 60 groups in 43 countries of the world.
The situation of Mary Help of Christians Pre-Province of Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan (AES), which receives a lot of economic aid from VIDES, was presented. Guido Barbera, VIDES President, was invited to present the VIDES association during General Chapter XXIII.
Fr. Wilfredo Grajales, SDB shared a reflection on the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis and presided at the afternoon Eucharistic celebration.
The next International Convention of VIDES will be held in Poland in 2016 and will have social education as its theme.
