From September 21 to 25 at Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, the Seminar for the Delegates and Provincial representatives of the Salesian Family of the regions of Africa and Madagascar took place. There were 32 Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians participating from 18 different countries.
The seminar opened with greetings from Fr. Adriano Bregolin, Vicar of the Rector Major and Councillor for Salesian Family Animation, Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda, General Councillor for the Salesian Family, Sr. Maria Riva, Delegate of the Provincial of Ethiopia, and Fr. Genaro Gegantoni, Salesian Provincial of Ethiopia. The superiors entrusted the participants with a message of encouragement for their commitment to the formation and accompaniment of the laity.
The Seminar at Addis Abeba is the fifth appointment on a world scale of the Salesian Family Delegates. It followed that of Częstochowa, Poland in February of 2011; Bangkok, Thailand in September of 2010; San Paolo, Brazil in October 2010; Quito, Ecuador in November 2010; and now at Addis Abeba. As in the preceding regional meetings, Addis Abeba also placed at the center of the reflections, the specific role of the Delegate of SF, of SSCC, and of EXA-DB and EXA-FMA, as the connecting figure and spiritual guide for the laity of the Salesian Family.
The formation of the Delegates came about through the study of and comparisons with various texts, from those of a universal character of the Catholic Church like "Christifideles Laici", to those specifically the product of internal reflection. The latter included, The Missionary Charter of the Salesian Family, Document on Local Consultations of the Salesian Family, the theme, "Self Formation and Formation to Networking in the Salesian Family," "Accompaniment With and Toward the Salesian Charism." These reflections did not omit the operative part and the Delegates elaborated proposals and solutions for the actualization of accompaniment models in the specific realties of Africa and Madagascar.
Among the numerous interventions, we point out those of Fr. Adriano Bregolin, Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda, Councillor for the FMA Salesian Family Sector, Sr. Maritza Ortiz, World Delegate of the FMA Past Pupils, Fr. Stjepan Bolkovac, World SSCC Delegate, and Fr. Josè Pastor Ramirez, World Delegate of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco and Collaborator in the Department of the Salesian Family.
The organization and coordination of the encounter was seen to by a team under the leadership of Fr. Adriano Bregolin and Sr. Maria Luisa Miranda. Hospitality was organized by Mr. Cesare Bullo, Director of the Financial Office of the Province of Ethiopia and Eritrea, and Fr. John Samala, Director of the Provincial House of Ethiopia.
During the days of the encounter lived in the traditional clime of joy proper to the Salesian Family, the Delegates spent a religious-cultural day visiting the FMA and SDB Salesian houses. The participants had the opportunity to see a variety of dances from the various regions of Ethiopia. The encounter ended with the Eucharist presided over by Fr. Adriano Bregolin.
